Wow, nothing is more inspiring than taking a class from an artist that you admire! I love Andy Coopermans work--check it out on his website by clicking his name/link. I had the opportunity of taking his "Captured" class this past week at the Metal Crafting Center for four days of bliss! I couldn't resist buying this beautiful piece made by Andy. I love the gold tip and the pattern on the heavy sterling spiral. It is gorgeous on anything!
We learned all about capturing objects and he started out by giving us a glass eye and a plastic chicken! My "Chick Flick" piece is in process and will show up later, but this is my glass eye...love glass eyes which is why we carry them on Objects and Elements. My piece is simple but kept interesting by the eye in the center...My bench partner Melissa Cable thinks it looks like an owl eye so I made her one too....it is made with two sheets of 22 gauge sheet metal and some simple wire rivets.
My favorite piece I made is this Gear Brooch because the gear spins! Yea, it worked! It's perfect for what Andy would call a "chimp" who fiddles with their jewelry when wearing it...like me.
even the back is beautiful just like Andy's!
For my wonderful blog followers leave a comment and I will randomly draw the name of one lucky winner and send you a pair of eyes and two pieces of sheet metal so you can create your own piece. I wish I could show you all the pieces made in the class--it was amazing what 11 students produced in four days. It was a great class with great students and we all had a GREAT time--thanks Andy!
