When I'm teaching cold joins and connections I often notice that my students don't really think ahead as to how they are going to attach their pendant to wear it. I wish I could say I always do--but being totally imperfect--I don't! This piece is a great example of that. I was playing in my studio just making anything that came to mind to work on new classes for 2013. I wanted to try to add some wire to the pendant to try to get a new look with some negative space. Well....the back has a loop in it to put through a neck ring of some kind but I didn't plan for the wires and a neck ring at the same time.
This piece was made with a stone, 22 Gauge Bronze and Nickel Silver sheet metal.
This is some gorgeous new Braided Chain we are carrying at Objects and Elements I love how heavy it is...but the pendant is pretty large and overwhelms it...
So I doubled the chain and love the look but it just doesn't play well with my Annealed Steel Wire on the side...
I thought maybe heavy leather would work because I like it with large pendants....too busy.
OK, last resort I tried some neck wires, worse than ever!
Conclusion? I should have designed ahead and this piece would have made a great pin but I put a pendant back on it, so I think I'll take it to class to remind me about to talk about planning ahead!
Leave your comment for a chance to win The Overflowing Stash, I swear it never seems to diminish even though we have two winners from last week Kathy @Katalina Jewelry and Kathy Reed...
