This earring is made entirely from Cold Joins. Cold Joins are joins made without the use of soldering. Cold joins tend to be more industrial looking and also the perfect choice when you are using a found object that is of questionable origin. This simple earring will just show you the layout, use your imagination to expand and make your own!
The parts are shown below. I used a pair of Shears to cut out the triangle shape in Patterned Sheet Metal (#465) and the circle from Nickel Silver.
The holes are punched with a Metal Hole Punch Plier as the fit in the hole doesn't need to be perfect like a wire rivet.
The third item is the Ear Posts with clutch back that will be sandwiched between the two pieces.
After you cut out your shapes, patina, file and finish as desired. Put the post through the front of the circle. Punch a hole in each of the corners of the triangle and place the triangle over the post to cover it. Using the hole on one of the corners of the triangle, punch through it and on through the circle of nickel silver.
Place a medium length 1/16" Eyelet through the two layers and set the eyelet with a Center Punch . Place the center punch in the raw end of the eyelet and tap lightly with a hammer until it starts to flare. Using the ball peen end of a Chasing Hammer and lightly tap around the edge to curl it down.
Continue on and do all three holes in the triangle punching each hole as you go in case there is any shifting. Cut another piece of sheet or use a drop of some kind with a jump ring through the bottom hole.
